The Ottawa Scouting Museum will be conducting a Scout Homecoming in honor of Ottawan W. D. Boyce, the founder of the Boy Scouts of America, with a variety of activities suitable for everyone!
 
Here are some of the confirmed activities:
 
Passbook - Youth participants will receive a “Scout Homecoming 2010 Passbook.” The book will list all available activities. The book will be validated at each activity. Certain activities will be “required” and others will be “elective.” The youth should bring the completed passbook to a specified location and receive their special “prize”.
 
Camping - at a variety of locations - first come first served, if they are all full, you will have to find your own camping area.  There are several fine hotels/motels in Ottawa as well who would welcome
 
Dutch oven cooking competition
 
Craft Corner
 
Games Area - indoor and outdoor!
 
Girl Scout Activity Area
 
Historic Programs - designed to explore the world of 1910!
 
Knots & Lacing - learn how to do both!
 
Kit Kars - similar to a Pinewood Derby, open to anyone who cares to participate. The museum will conduct an activity to put together one of the kits sometime after the first of the year - watch the website for more information!
 
Soap Box Derby -
 
Soap Box Derby Specifications
 
    1.    No engines or motors
    2.    No nails allowed
    3.    Must be made of wood construction
    4.    Length - 84 inches or less
    5.    Width - no wider than 42 inches
    6.    Wheels - 12 inches or less, heavy duty or metal rims.
    7.    Steering king pin must be ∏ inch - grade 5 bolt or grade 8.
    8.    Must have steering blocks.
    9.    Must have some kind of brake.
    10.    Must have some kind of personal restraint.
    11.    Rider must wear a helmet.
    12.    Must have a foot holder (so feet can’t fall to the ground)
    13.    Must have 4 wheels.
    14.    Must have tow hook on front and rear.
 
Pioneering Park - this area will be set up adjacent to the Historic Programs area. We will have a monkey bridge, climbing and repelling towers, a zip line!
 
Scout Quilt - the museum will offer a scout quilt kit for purchase and you may put it together at Ottawa’s great sewing machine store - Mann Made. Limited number of kits will be available - check back later for more information.
 
Scout Scrapbooking Borders - designed by OSM volunteers Mollie Perrot and Christine Hasty, a limited number of these kits will be available. And, there will be a Scrapbook period and location set up to do some scrapbooking.
 
Trade-O-Ree - come check out scouting memorabilia!
 
Trading Cards - each registered youth participant will be offered a set of trading cards - all the same kind. They have to trade with other youth to complete their set!
 
Trails - We will offer our regular Mystery Trail for this event, with the special patch. We will also remind participants of the other 3 permanent hiking trails offered by OSM - the Footsteps in History Trail, the Time Capsule Trail and the W. D. Boyce Trail.
 
Legacy Meetup - Four grandchildren/great grandchildren of scouting’s founder(s) will be at this event to meet and greet participants.
 
Non-denominational Church Services - Come to Scout Sunday in Washington Park. Non-denominational church services will be offered!
 
Parade - Parade walk to the gravesite of W. D. Boyce will be on Sunday - Eagle Scouts to lead the parade!
